Wayne Attwood

Born 1970 in Birmingham, England, his artistic ability was noted from an early age and he was encouraged throughout his education to explore art. After graduating art collage in the West Midlands with a Diploma in Art & Design, he found a certain amount of success painting large historical works, mainly in Oils - a number of commissions for heritage buildings in England. During this period opportunities arose in commercial art, specifically Illustration and Design projects for the Advertising and Marketing industry - accumulating in him becoming Creative Director of a national Advertising and Marketing Agency. He has undertaken projects across the UK and Europe for corporations such as Coke-Cola, Disney, BBC, Film4, Sky TV, Kodak, Thomas Cook, Barclays Bank and Diageo/Guinness to name a few.

At the age of 33 he 'retired' from the commercial art industry to sail with his wife, on their 35ft yacht 'Hitrapia' around the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Europe, rediscovering his passion for painting.

He aims to capture the light and culture of the countries experienced throughout his travels. Wayne says "Moving away from the Pre-Raphaelite influences of my earlier work, I find with each piece of work I produce, I move closer to impressionism. It is mainly light that I aim to explore, but I'm also interested in the way we as a species interact and inhabit the earth - on land or sea - which is why travelling is so inspirational to my work and I'm continually drawn to marine and urban subjects as a vehicle to expess light."

Wayne is currently in Malta, spending an extended period of time, producing a body of work devoted entirely to this group of enchanting and historic Islands. While in Malta he has participated in various exhibitions and completed a number of commissions, including one for Dr Austin Gatt, Maltese Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications.

One of his paintings was selected by the Artists & Illustrators Magazine as the painting of the month. It is shown in the Summer 2012 magazine issue.

He is represented in Malta and Gozo by VGB Art Gallery.
